What Models Does KeyVox Use?
Choose the dictation experience you prefer, then add writing styles or spoken playback only if you want them.
KeyVox offers Whisper for supported Macs and iPhones. Parakeet is also available on supported iPhones and on Macs running macOS 14 or later. Both run on your device after you download them.
Vibes and Speak are separate optional features. KeyVox Vibes can try a different writing style on your latest dictation before you edit it, while Speak can read copied text aloud on iPhone.
What each KeyVox model does

Download once, then dictate locally
Choose and download a model during setup. After it is ready, KeyVox can transcribe your speech on the device instead of sending every recording to a KeyVox transcription service.
Each device can use its own model choice. For example, you can use Whisper on one device and Parakeet on another.
KeyVox Vibes and KeyVox Speak are separate from dictation
Installing Whisper or Parakeet gives you dictation. Vibes and Speak are optional downloads for people who want writing styles or spoken playback.
Keeping them separate means you only set up the features you plan to use.
What to know before choosing
- Whisper and Parakeet both keep KeyVox transcription on your device.
- Available choices depend on your device and operating-system version.
- You need an internet connection for the initial download, but not for ordinary dictation afterward.
- KeyVox source is available, with clearly documented exclusions and separate licenses for third-party model technology.
